“My heartfelt thanks to Robert Clifton-Smith (Acoustic Adventures) and Dr Rod Crawford (Legend Speakers) for turning what was to be a simple conversion of our old floor-standing speakers into a set of bookshelf speakers into a true acoustic adventure.

I was determined to look first at Australian-designed and built speakers, and after some time, I came across a discussion of Rod’s Legend speakers. There were auspicious reviews and information about Rod’s business history, design, and construction expertise.

Unfortunately, you can’t just walk into the local HiFi shop and pick out a set. Still, I contacted Robert at Acoustic Adventures as the Sydney agent. I could organise a personalised demonstration with my favourite music in an environment akin to a regular home rather than a massive showroom where the best sound might be lost.

Having been very satisfied with what I heard, Robert organised for me to hear the speakers perform at home. That sealed the deal.

Along the way, I was able to discuss with Robert other aspects of the world of digital music with which I was not familiar, leading to an unexpected dive into the world of DACs and a setup that brought out the very best of the speakers, something that my original system could not entirely reproduce.

Further communication with Dr. Rod ensured that the speakers I eventually chose were the most capable of reproducing my favourite styles of music. Those discussions also helped me understand the design principles behind his search for speakers that sounded as if you were there.

It was an excellent process during which I achieved my goal of buying a set of quality bookshelf speakers. Still, I also learned much about maximising their potential and my listening experience. Thanks, Robert and Rod.”
